Adam Markwell, Founder & President of the Board

Adam Markwell understands the power of education to transform a child’s life. Adam has been a leading volunteer for organizations that benefit Toronto schoolchildren for over ten years. As President of the Canadian board of Isthmus, he is dedicated to the elimination of hunger in the daily lives of Canadian school children, and is committed to raising awareness and funds in support of this goal.

Jaime Watt, Director

Jaime Watt is Executive Chairman of Navigator Ltd. and a Principal at Ensight Canada. He specializes in complex public strategy issues, serving both domestic and international clients in the corporate, professional services, not-for-profit, and government sectors.

‪He is a trusted advisor to business leaders as well as leaders of political parties at all three levels of government across Canada. Jaime has led ground-breaking election campaigns that have transformed politics because of their boldness and creativity.

‪Jaime serves on the boards of many organizations including the Canada Institute of the Woodrow Wilson Center for Scholars in Washington, the St. Michael’s Hospital Foundation in Toronto, the Canadian Club of Toronto, and the Stratford Shakespeare Festival. He chairs the Capital Campaign for Casey House, Canada’s pioneer AIDS hospice, and is the president of the Albany Club of Toronto, one of Canada’s oldest private clubs.

Deeply involved with efforts to promote equality and human rights issues, he was the inaugural recipient of Egale’s Lifetime Achievement Award and has been awarded both the Queen’s Golden and Diamond Jubilee medals for service to the community. Jaime has also been elected to the College of Fellows of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society.

‪A highly regarded speaker, Jaime appears regularly as a public affairs commentator in the media, including in his own weekly segment on the CBC News Network’s popular Power and Politics programme, and on its flagship news programme The National with Peter Mansbridge.

Loudon Owen, Director

Loudon Owen is lawyer and venture capitalist. He co-founded McLean Watson Capital, which invests in and advises growth companies. He has served in numerous capacities as a volunteer with a deep commitment to health and education.

Jordy Chilcott, Director

Jordy’s support of Isthmus is inspired by the clear need that the program addresses. Recognising that there was a fundamental gap when school systems were supporting the nutrition needs of children while they were in their charge, which is in itself a wonderful step forward, Isthmus fills the void once that child leaves the school property. This allows for the benefit that has been built to not be lost during periods away from school. It is understood that life may be challenging enough for the youth involved in this program and if helping them worry about one less basic need can be accomplished relatively easily, it is Jordy’s hope the cycle of need can be broken.

Heather Barclay, Executive Director

Heather is passionately committed to social justice and the empowerment of youth, women and vulnerable populations. Previously, Heather acted as Director of Corporate Social Responsibility and Global Community Outreach at SkyPower Global, the largest solar energy developer in the world. There, Heather designed and implemented SkyPower’s international charitable giving program. This program provided solar lights for over 5,000 South African youth and committed another 100,000 lights and home energy systems for distribution by 2020 through the UN Global Compact. Heather has over 15 years of experience in education, global management consulting, CSR, marketing, events production, grant/proposal development and project management.
